Dear Party Planner:
We need an interesting but easy Team Building Event to add to our corporate retreat next month. With all the current turmoil in the economy and layoffs in our industry, everyone is tired and on edge. We have a sales trainer coming in and we plan on working on communication and the other "corporate stuff" -- but we need something light and fun to fill an hour in the afternoon.
Any suggestions?

Hi Peter:
Here is the greatest team building exercise, EVER! Better then: Flaming Hop-Scotch or Drink Connect 4, even better then the classic: What Does Our Boss Smell Like Today?, or the always favorite: Prank Call The Intern...
(DISCLAIMER: None of those are real team-building exercises, nor should they be tried in a business setting: I have just had too much coffee this morning!)
None of these compare to a game that if fun, exciting, and will bring you and your “team” hours of joy and enrichment. Rescue at Sea is THE team building exercise for even the most despicable and decisive, maybe even crabby office gang. Why? Because you get to live out your fantasy of being trapped on a desert island with Barbie! (or Ken, if that is more your speed... we don't judge). Rescue At Sea is an enriching and exciting game – that promotes team building and group dynamics, (not just playing with dolls and humming the Jaws theme song, although that certainly is a fun part of it.)
It’s really simple – you get to live out your Coast Guard and Superheroic fantasies while showing off to the other corporate cube-dwellers you work with! Four players at a time maneuver a small helicopter to pick up Barbie and Ken dolls before a giant shark circling below gobbles them up. I recommend picking up Barbie first, since Ken is sometimes misunderstood, blamed for the paper-clip shortage in the office and left behind on the island (ha!)…Players must then fly Babs and Ken to their own tropical island! The island is just like Sandals! For extra fun, last time our office played this Team Events extravaganza, we dropped a GI Joe doll into the mix! Within a few hours, Joe had tossed Ken into the drink and him and Barbie had built a new dream home that would make the Swiss Family Robinson jealous.
Think of all the applicable object lessons about working as a team to solve a problem, dealing with adversity, and group decision making! And best of all, you don't have to see any of your co-workers in bathing suits!
