Dear Team Events:
I am planning a 40th birthday party for my husband. He really wants to just get together with a bunch of friends and play cards, but I would love to do something a little more "celebratory." I was thinking about a casino-style party? What do you think?
Gail M. NY
Dear Gail:
This year, for my birthday, my own lovely (and ever-so-smart) wife gave me the best party any fellow could ask for….(No, she didn’t hire me the Swedish Bikini team and drive a beer trunk into our backyard--you guys know me too well though!)….She threw me a Casino Party!
I love to gamble! I do! I love it! I am very competitive and I don’t know why! I was raised by parents who saved every penny, and wouldn't ever consider a trip to Vegas... but somehow the gene skipped me! If I’m not gambling, I am watching it on TV. If I am not watching the World Series of Poker on the tube, I’m reading new strategies in new gambling books. My favorite movie? Ocean’s 11!
So having all my buddies and their spouses over for a fun and gambling-centric party was fantastic. While I’m a blackjack kinda guy, my casino parties offered many different activities, giving all the guests plenty of options. Some times at parties, the mingling ability is low – with guests clustering in small groups: Family in one corner, coworkers in another, old frat brothers iin the deck with a beer or two….But with several different tables and spirited competition, everyone had the opportunity to meet and interact with many people throughout the night.
And every successful party has to have good munchies. For my casino party, we had light hors d’oeuvres and drinks. I’ve already convinced my coworkers to have an event to blow off some office steam, and we are planning a more formal event with a sit-down dinner. The options are there, you just decide your budget and what you think the guests would want. Your options are nearly limitless.
The most rewarding thing about the party, beyond my joy at the constant state-of-bliss I feel at a card table, was the fact that the Casino Night staff worked with my wonderful better-half to make the night fun for her too. Unlike the stressball that was my 30th birthday, my Casino Night birthday was fun for me – and her. The Casino Night staff can create options and solutions for every problem. They are even around for a husband who might burst into tears during a disastrous double-down incident. But, let’s not talk about that…..
Long story short... I definitely recommend working with Team Events and their Casino Party Planners for your husband's party -- he will love it. If you want to learn a little more about Casino Parties - check out the Casino Party NY site.

Meet My New Best Friend: Virtual Party Guest
Dear Party Planner:
I have a conundrum...
I am planning a party, only I an very introverted and my party-planning skills are relatively untested. Worse yet, there are a bunch of people coming to the party (it is a birthday party) that don't know each other and are just as shy as I am.
I am afraid that the party is going to be a bust. Short of hiring actors to socialize with everyone, how can I get the party guests to interact and have a good time without being "entertaining" myself?
Patty J. New York
Dear Patty,
First, let me tell you I had to look up the word "conundrum." It seems I should have known this word before since apparently I experience daily conundrums and can now add this to my vocabulary--thank you!
Secondly, this always happens to me--I end up being dragged to a party where I don’t know a soul. I’m forced to make small talk while fighting with people for the last shrimp on the appetizer tray. I struggle to make conversation, fake interest, and generally find myself staring into the bottom of my highball glass all night long. Then, I met my new best friend.
Team Events has the perfect party crasher for any kind of event. It’s the new Virtual Guest ! Welcome to the 21st century, a place where guests don’t have to be there, or human, to still stir up some fun. The Virtual Guest is a free-standing dome shaped kiosk where a virtual character floats inside and interacts with you and other lonely souls.
Characters can vary depending on the theme of your event. I really hit it off with the Genie, but I found Mr. Know-it-All to be a bit to smarmy for my tastes. The Shopping Maven proved to be a big lady-crowd pleaser, and frankly I am thinking about asking the Sports Fanatic if he’d be my best man. He was a helluva good talker, but knew his stuff. It’s extremely entertaining, and totally cutting edge, and takes the sting off of those newbies forced to mingle with you and your office or social clique.
Totally cool - totally recommended: The Virtual Party Guest. Never will you have to fake interest in conversation or act out-of-character for the sake of the party again!

Guy's Party: Kicking It Old School
Dear Team Events:
I am planning a party to celebrate Spring for a bunch of my buddies and their families. We like to get together a few times each spring and summer. It started out as a "guy's night" with all the pizza and beer and video games we could handle and has now become a "bring the family" party a few times during the good-weather months in New York.
Do you have any suggestions for making our summer-kick-off party great, keep the family-friendly-fun in the mix and still stay true to the original "guy's night" format?
Rob W.
New York
Dear Rob:
For my 8th birthday I begged my parents for a Ms. Pac Man game. I got it--for my Atari 2600--and I learned that video games at home were convenient, but so much fun--and it made me the most popular kid on the block, (well, at least with the guys...thinking back it may have hurt with the ladies...)
Decades later – my birthday wish is actually complete!!!! Team Events offers 200 in 1 Video Game Arcade Classics for any party, corporate event, family reunion, wedding, funeral, (ok, maybe not funeral...) bar mitzvah, or Sunday social. It’s really ingenious, and totally appeals to the generation of boys and girls who grew up begging for quarters from their parents. Choose from over 200 different arcade classic games like Ms. Pacman, Mario Brothers, Donkey Kong, Centipede and all your brain-rotting favorites. It’s the kind of nostalgia and fun that money can only hope to buy. Fun for the whole family!
There’s a tremendously popular dive bar in Brooklyn known as Barcade. They have a simple philosophy: good beer and good times. The good times are provided by dozens of way-back arcade games. Now, you don’t have to go out and wrangle through a crowd of hipsters to have this kind of fun. You just have the geniuses at Team Events drop off the Video Game Arcade Classics at your home, invite over your best buds, and drink your own beer! It’s a classic and cost-effective fun! Perfect for every buddy (and family) in this turbulent economy!

Getting the Most from Your Team Event: NY
Dear Team Events:
I have been charged with the arduous task of planning my company team building activity this year. BUT... they could not have chosen the a worse person for this task! I hate these kinds of things and I am dreading planning the event...
I have talked to my supervisor and she has approved working with a professional team building company. So I am in the process of finding a good match. What ideas do you have? ANd what can you tell me about your company?
(...not) A Team Player
New York
Dear "Not"
Clearly you have been one of the unlucky suckers to be forced by the powers-that-be to go on a corporate retreat in the past. You're fed bad food, forced to listen to inane chatter about team building, and often forced into ridiculous exercises on “trust building”. Every time I’ve succumbed to my bosses wishes, I’ve needed another whole retreat to reboot my personality. Or how about the “fun” stuff you’re forced to do at company picnics? The embarrassment never ends there either…
Team Events, of Bayshore NY, features some unique and (Shock! Shock!) actually fun group events that help develop communication and collaboration skills while keeping your coworkers from sinking into comas. Suitable for the hole gamut of company shindigs, Team Events works with the organizers to develop tasteful, friendly, and enriching experiences that leave you invigorated not eviscerated. Programs are specifically developed and modified to be able to happen anywhere: your offices, a hotel ballroom, or conference space, the company parking lot, the subbasement – you name it! Each “adventure” is different and deliberate. The Team Building Olympics has specifically designed tasks given to participants that are both intellectually taxing and exciting. The levels of difficulty and fun is up to you, so don’t worry the Team Events experts will throw you into the gauntlet. The staff is there to always ensure a safe and exciting time. Nobody wants to lose an eye at a corporate retreat….Although, it would give us all something to talk about over lunch the next day…..
Is your organization suffering from a lack of “out-of-the-box” problem solving? Run the troops through Team Event’s 60ft long Obstacle Course. Nothing drums up some creativity like climbing over and under obstacles, including a 12ft inflatable rock wall. Help your surly band of underlings learn how to work together with a Scavenger Hunt using GPS receivers and mysterious clues, or eliminate office competition and backstabbing with a Survival of the Fittest challenge. My personal favorite is Foosball, every old jock’s dream! Round up your staff in a 30'x30' Human Foosball arena where they get attached to harnesses, which only allow the combatants to move within their own area. Played like regular fooseball, players pass the ball and try to score goals. Trust us, it’s hysterical and actually helps you develop a closer relationship with that weird guy who sits in the next cubicle.
Team Events also can spice up the action with blowguns, crossbows, spears, bolas and any other items you’d find on an episode of “Lost”. The sky’s the limit! Team events prides itself on working with their customers to create specifically styled events that work with your corporate culture. You won’t have egg on your face after a Team Events Team Event, but you might get more money in your paycheck.
Give us a call at 1-800-BEST-PARTY to schedule your event today. I promise you that this year's Team Building event will be one that DOES make you a "Team Player."

Monster Mash
Dear Party Planner,
I am planning a birthday party for eight 11-year-old boys. I am at a loss for what to do for these kids. They are not really little kids, not really teen-agers. There will be only boys at the party and I have NO IDEA where to start the planning of the coolest party ever.
I don't have too many more opportunities to treat my son to an "awesome" day--so I am open to any ideas you might have.
Mary: A single mom - NY.
Dear Mary,
An unfilled ambition of mine has always been to drive a huge truck. A big rig. A semi…Perhaps watching CONVOY as a kid 11 skillion times effected me. I dunno. An even bigger dream has always been to be Monster Truck driver, but my parents steered me away from that career and pushed me towards my current occupation. Why Mom? Why!
Finally, I can cleanse myself of my unhealthy obsession--and I happily pass it along to your son!Team Events, (a wickedly clever group of event planners and merrymakers if I do say so myself), has a Monster Truck Track that is suitable for my next party, (or yours) corporate events, picnics, family reunions, or perhaps the day after my tax refund comes in when I just want some “ME” time! (Take that Mom!)
The Monster Truck Track comes fully loaded, with steering wheel controlled miniature monster trucks and 42” plasma screen TVs showing monster truck scenes. The Mini Monster Trucks race, crush and smash (SMASH! Most important! Smash!) their way in a 12' x 12' Area. Supposedly, the kids will like this…I do not know. I do know, I like this! I like this very, very much.
Actually I know your son and all his friends will really love this too - AND you will be "the best mom ever" -- a present for you more than him!
Give us a call at 1-800-best-party and we will hook you up with the Monster Truck Track. Have an amazing party.

American Superstar! (aka: "I want to be Paula!")
Dear Party Planner:
I am trying to plan a party for next month, but my parties are so... vanilla! What can I do to spruce up my party--without losing my mind?
Your next party doesn’t have to be forgettable. Keep your social circle envious with an American Superstar party! Basically, you bring TV's hottest reality show (you know, the one with Simon, Randy, Paula and that new chick – whats-her-face) to your event!
The rules are simple, cause it is played just like the TV show! You’ve been one of the millions of people to watch the show, right? Each contestant can choose from over 500 songs to sing and compete for faaaaaab-ulous prizes. There are the power ballads, the country tunes, the rock staples, and plenty of pop numbers for any delusional chick who thinks she is Britney. Those who avoid the spotlight aren’t left out either, as ballots are passed out to the audience to vote for their favorite act. Party guests are also picked to be the sassy "Celebrity Judges”! Watch the room descend into madness as people fight over who will be the pop star has-been or the nasty chesty-hair British curmudgeon.
Each American Superstar party also comes with a Host (make sure to feed and water him), costumes and much, much more! (Thankfully, no annoying Ryan Seacrest…Although, he is short enough to fit into almost any box.) Its honestly so much fun, you’d scrape up a reason to have a party just to do it. After all, everyone wants their 15 minutes of fame!

Murder Mystery Birthday Party
Dear Party Planner –
It will be my husband’s 50th birthday next month and I want to plan something special and unusual for him and some of the executives at his company. We’ll also be inviting some family members. I’m looking for some type of event that can be done with about 6 to 8 couples. The challenge I have is that not all of them are athletic, so sports are out, and I really don’t want to do a traditional dinner party, although food should be part of the event. We could either do something at our home or out at a restaurant or club.
Do you have any suggestions?
Elaine E. - NY
Dear Elaine –
One of the events we do that are very popular for both team building and birthday parties are our murder mysteries. Everybody loves a good humorous murder mystery where the party participants get to take on the persona of characters within the story.
One of the characters – perhaps your husband? – gets to be the murderer. You can send out the invitations in advance, letting people know who they’ll be and ask them to either come in costume or wear accessories that the character would wear.
When you add dinner to a murder mystery, it makes things even more fun! What’s better than drama, suspense, comedy, and dinner. If some of the guests don’t already know each other, this is a great way for them to become familiar quickly. If they do already know each other, that lends to the hilarity as guests start entwining double entendres and facts from real life in with plot.
Depending on your preference, this could take place at your home or in a private banquet room at a restaurant. Should you decide to rent a facility that doesn’t serve food, we can provide the catering,
We would be happy to work with you to customize a murder mystery dinner for your husband’s birthday that will leave your guests dying to play again! Just call TeamEvents.com at 800-BEST-PARTY or 631-274-0600.

Trade Show Booth
Dear Party Planner –
One of my friends whose company did a team building event with you suggested I contact TeamEvents.com for some ideas. He said that you rent out equipment as well as do teambuilding exercises.
My company is participating in a business-to-consumer trade show at the end of next month. We’re giving away some goodies, but I want to be sure that we have something in the booth that will really draw a crowd. I’ve discovered that it’s one of the best ways to get good leads.
There’ll be adults and kids there, so a colleague suggested balloons, but I’m thinking food. What would you recommend?
Merrill G.
Dear Merrill –
Balloons are always a big crowd pleaser if there are a lot of kids in the audience, but I have a couple of suggestions that work well with mixed or adult audiences.
One of the best ways to draw a crowd at your trade show is to make sure you can’t be missed! Think about how the scent of freshly-popped Johnson’s Popcorn floating in the air will entice hungry trade show attendees of all ages! Johnson’s Popcorn began as a favorite of the Ocean City Boardwalk crowd in 1940 and will easily enthrall the folks attending a trade show! We offer a variety flavors to choose from, including plain and caramel.
Another popular and easy-to-serve attention-getter is our Dippin Dots. You can park the cart right in your booth and pass out ¼ oz. cups of luscious little vanilla, chocolate and Cookies ‘n Cream beads--YUM!
An advantage of these two items is that you can park either cart toward the back of your booth, drawing people into the space so that your sales reps will have the opportunity to engage attendees while they’re waiting online.
Please give TeamEvents a call at (800-Best-Party) or (631.274.0600 ) and we’d be happy to help make sure attendees are swarming your booth!
